Boiler Repairs

for Expansion Tank with Inadequate Air and Excess Water

Boiler repairs can be done by anyone who have the knowledge to do them. But there are also lots of factors to consider besides knowledge like the parts that are needed to be replaced and more. If you are not sure what to do though, you can always ask the help of expert like emergency plumbers who will know what to do to help you.

One of the problems that your boiler could experience is that your expansion tank has too much water yet lacks air in it. Before doing anything, know first what type of hot boiler you own. The older model is bigger and a steel tank horizontally designed. The newer model though is smaller and is designed like a diaphragm. While the expansion tank on the older model can be found between the joists, the one in the newer model is located to the boiler piping.

One way to avoid the need for boiler repairs is to make sure that the expansion tank is charged properly, both air so as to prevent water from boiling. There are many signs for which you can tell that there is something wrong with the expansion tank. If the boiler, specifically the pressure relief valve, is spurting water then it is a clear sign of a problem in the tank and that there is excess water and lack of air in it. Water pressure of more than 20 psi and a hot expansion tank are also signs that there is a problem in the expansion tank of the boiler. The question though is, why is it happening and how would it be resolved?

You can always call for the help of emergency plumbers to do the job for you but if not then it will be better to start with why it happened. The first boiler repairs option you need to do is to touch the tank. Make sure that the bottom part is hotter than the top. If that is not the case then the tank must be filled with water and would need draining. After then, let the system cool by shutting off the valve. The trick is to drain the tank and let it cool. Open the supply valve next and let it do its job. Turn it on and see if it worked.
